When I Count My Blessings…

When I Count My Blessings, I Count My Family Over & Over Again!!!

We will be heading up north to visit with this beautiful family! We are very excited!!

You know … Time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems just yesterday that I was young, just married and embarking on my new life with my mate. Yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went. I know that I lived them all. I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams.

But, here it is… The back nine of my life and it catches me by surprise…How did I get here so fast? Where did the years go and where did my youth go?

I remember well seeing older people through the years and thinking that those older people were years away from me and that I was only on the first hole and the back nine was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like.

But, here it is…my friends are retired and getting gray…they move slower and I see an older person now. Some are in better and some worse shape than me…but, I see the great change…Not like the ones that I remember who were young and vibrant…but, like me, their age is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used to see and never thought we’d become.

Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the day! And taking a nap is not a treat anymore… it’s mandatory! Cause if I don’t on my own free will… I just fall asleep where I sit!

And so…now I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do things that I wish I had done but never did!! But, at least I know, that though Iโ€™m on the back nine, and I’m not sure how long it will last…this I know, that when it’s over on this earth…it’s over. A new adventure will begin! Yes, I have regrets. There are things I wish I hadn’t done…things I should have done, but indeed, there are many things I’m happy to have done. It’s all in a lifetime.

So, if you’re not on the back nine yet…let me remind you, that it will be here faster than you think. So, whatever you would like to accomplish in your life please do it quickly! Don’t put things off too long!! Life goes by quickly. So, do what you can today, as you can never be sure whether youโ€™re on the back nine or not!

You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your life…so, live for today and say all the things that you want your loved ones to remember…and hope that they appreciate and love you for all the things that you have done for them in all the years past!!

  1. Wise thoughts and words. Laurie, you do not have to worry. We cannot direct time backward but your future is in your Daughters and Grandchildren. You’ll be in their memory forever. But it is not time to think about that. You have plenty of time for happy living and enjoying your lovely family.

  2. What a lovely shot, Laurie. ๐Ÿ™‚ So much to live for, but you’re right- no guarantees! Wishing you and yours good health. We know you’ll grab the happiness ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Great photo sweetie! I love your blog header too! Have a safe and wonderful trip North!! I know what you mean about needing naps! Starting to show my age too in ways! Now I know what my grandparents were talking about! Tee hee! Hugz Lisa and Bear

  4. How wonderful that you are finally going to be able to take that trip! You are so fortunate to have such a beautiful and loving family. Yes, life goes by too quickly and our twilight years (mine!) are upon us. Every day is a gift so make the most of each one. The post is an inspiration! Cheers to life and those we love! Have a safe trip!

  5. Great letter! As one who is on the back 9, this year my annual checkup will be the last with my doctor of over 35 years. He is retiring soon, and for the first time in my life, my doctor will be younger than me. ๐Ÿ˜€

  6. Laurie, this is a great post. So many of us wonder where the time has gone making it all the more important to do as much as we can while we can. You can bet I’m giving it a good go!

  7. How true! We should count our blessings and all the things money can’t buy. Lucky you to have such a precious โค family, Laurie. Lovely, lovely post and good reminder for all of us. Gorgeous photo!
    Big hug, Dina Xo

  8. So, so true! I intend to live life well! Just came back from two weeks in Germany with my family and mom. We wanted to bless my mom by taking her to her homeland one more time as she didn’t think she would ever go back – especially by herself – to see family members that are elderly. What a wonderful time our boys will remember forever.

  9. Laurie your family is gorgeous and happy that you are on your way to see them – it’s a thrill for you of which I read in your words.

But geez the letter from your friend made me anxious that there was something wrong with you, until the last line – thank goodness! In the end it was a very good and strong message.

  10. Whenever I golf from this point forward, I will always think of this post. Very inspiring! How true – take advantage of every opportunity and each and every day …. it’s all a gift!

Please share your thoughts...and thank you for the love!
