Butterfly Kaleidoscope…
As soon as we stepped out of the car into the parking lot, we walked into a dazzling array of colors filling every corner of the conservatory in this brand new show at the Indianapolis Zoo! Making you believe that you are walking into an immense glass kaleidoscope. A breathtaking mobile of giant proportions will twirl overhead as a rainbow of light shimmers in through stained glass panels. These translucent, jewel-toned panels will mimic the butterflies as they float on the air currents high in the air in the Conservatory. A photographers delight for sure!
It brought back all the fun memories of playing with my Kaleidoscope Toy.
Do you remember, turning the bottom dial and all the beautiful colors swirling around? Did you have one as a child?
Maybe, Little Man should have one of these for Christmas? Hum, an idea…
Tip of the Day for Bloggers/Photographers:
“If your pictures aren’t good enough, you’re NOT close enough!” ~ Robert Copa
Sometimes it is just a comfort zone to keep space between us and what we are photographing.
Get in close:
- Encourages Detail.
- It gets rid of clutter.
- Creates impact and a message.
I hope you had a lovely weekend…

Such a simple concept and yet a powerfully eye-catching exhibit. Cool stuff!
So much fun Laurie!
Laurie! Should you ever find time to get to the 59th comment (that’s me!), I want you to know how much I loved seeing these photos. These butterflies are so bright and beautiful. Thanks for sharing!!
Laurie, this is yet another most inspiring post. Great photography and good advice, fine thoughts fro the day! Big hug from sunny Norway.x
Fabulous photos — wonderful angles and extraordinary color, Laurie!
Beautiful, bright, cheery photos! I love all the colors! My son and his family used to live in Indy. We’ve been to this zoo! We went once in January when only the “inside” animals were there and we tromped around in the snow. Thanks for the tip on getting closer — something I need to work on!
Wondrous colours, Laurie. Every child should have a kaleidoscope. For that matter, so should every adult!
I love the colours in the images and all against that beautiful blue sky

Great colors. Looks like a great place to visit!
I certainly remember the kaleidoscope. Looking at these colorful butterfly shape kites definitely is similar to looking through the kaleidoscope.
How delightfully colorful…what a fun time you must have had!!
Awesome! Happy Week to you ^_^
BEAUTIFUL BUTTERFLIES. A colorful welcome.
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
Colourful and happy! My memories of those caleidoscopes come fluttering by…I really loved mine.
I remember those kaleidoscopes! What a fun post!
A creative idea. Must be so welcoming at the entrance to the sea to see this giant mobile of winged colour.
We lived in Indy for a couple of years when our two kids were wee ones. I can’t tell you how much we enjoyed the zoo, it was the perfect size and like your photographs, simply beautiful!
Very colorful! Hope you had a great weekend, Laurie
So pretty!! I love fun features like that! And yes, I tried to teach my little photo club last spring that it’s ok to get close!
What a wonderful post.. All the wonderful color makes me HAPPY… Hope you have a happy week my friend.
Hugs~
So vivid, Laurie! Is there a collection of real butterflies inside too? In a nearby park we have something called Butterfly World and they are real live beauties. 🙂
Yes, inside is all real butterflies. I put the camera away, so I could just enjoy them fluttering around me and Little Man.
Great pictures! I’ll have to run down to the zoo to see that exhibit! My grandson would probably like that! Especially the younger one. Thanks for sharing!!
Wonderful and so colorful captures!
These colors are just wonderful, Laurie.
One cannot help but smile when looking at them.
I wish you a wonderful week ahead!
Oh the beauty of butterflies!
I remember losing myself in kaleidoscopes when I was a kid. Ok – I still do sometimes – LOL
Wonderful shots, love the colors!
A photographer’s delight indeed. Beautiful colors. Terrific shots Laurie.
Great pictures Love the butterflies Have a great Ruby Tuesday Too
All those colors! Makes me want to paint. 🙂 Your photos are always so inspiring.
Such color! I like the stainless steel framing too, a good lot of work to build them. You are up north aye?
NO we are back now…just going to take me awhile to show all the photos! Yes, the aluminum framing was incredible.
What a fabulous mobile, a beautiful preview of whats to come inside. Very clever, love it. I actually wrote a post about a kaleidoscope I bought last year. I’ve always enjoyed them a lot and it currently sits on my desk.
Ooooh, I think this Noni might need a kaleidoscope along with the grands! Thank you for the reminder, Laurie. Now, where do you think we find them? blessings ~ tanna
What a wonderful place! Maybe on my next visit to Michigan I will have to drive down and see it!
A prelude to nature’s coloration–nicely captured.
These are so happy and fun! Love your photo tip. I always tell people that I’m about to come in scary close! They always laugh, so it works!
Yes, I loved my Kaleidoscope, I could literally sit for hours turning and pointing it towards the sun or light bulbs – would kids do that these days?
What an awesome display of colors, Laurie! Thanks for sharing. It must have been a really fun day 🙂
Love the new gravatar pic Gracie!
Thanks, Laurie. Glad you like it 🙂
Had to do a little “selfie”…haha

What a colorful and delightful post for the Monday morning 🙂 Wonderful tip!
Have a nice week, Laurie!
So colorful!!! Great shots!!!
In the morning when I open mail box your post comes up like a Good Morning message. Thank you. It looks like you send to all of your followers this lovely message and making the day for them. Butterflies are amazing!
Lautal, with it being a Monday Morning…I really appreciate this sentiment. Thank you…have a great day.
Thanks for that tip, very useful. Sometimes you’re trying to fit the whole subject(s) in the one frame and it doesn’t always need to work that way. The colours are so vibrant – brilliant!
Laurie,
Thanks for the tips, I love your pictures. The up close ones are beautiful. Pinning!
