She Adjusted Her Sail…

Hello, my friends!

This post will be very different than what you come to expect here.

I wanted to share with you a little journey that I am on. (Men, you might not find this your cup of tea today😀)

It was TIME, I adjusted my sail…as the saying goes.

I have entered the stage, labeled the mid-term of life. Also, called Menopause.LOL.

Menopause is the start in your life where you NEED to start being selfish on how you take care of yourself.

We have been spending all of our time taking care of family and doing for everyone else for YEARS.

Sometimes, forfeiting on what we like or even love to the point of sacrificing your own well being.

I am a type A personality. I don’t do ANYTHING half way…sigh.

For example: the year that I was Marisa’s Nanny…it was all about her!!

There were days, I didn’t even wash my face or get out of my pajama’s.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT. And, I would do it again!

But, I want to be here for the grands in the future…so I am trying to find a balance.

I gained an exceptional amount of weight during the last couple of years. I can’t keep letting myself go.

Ok, it probably didn’t help…that Marisa wanted to eat every couple of hours, so Grammie thought she should eat too.

I didn’t want her to feel left out. Smile…

When you gain weight, you start not to feel pretty anymore.

So, I took a day and organized my makeup and got rid of everything that wasn’t working anymore.

I went and bought a Weight Watcher Scale and installed that in the bathroom.

I installed the Lose It App on my iPhone. It is wonderful!!!

I can’t recommend it enough!! Oh, the best part…it is FREE!

My daughter, who is a doctor recommended it to me. I saw how it was a great tool for her, in her weight loss.

She looks FABULOUS! It was very inspiring for me to watch.

I started this journey on June 6th, 2016. It has been 3 months so far, I have lost 20 pounds as of this week.

It feels so wonderful, my friends. I have a little pep to my step again.

There is NOTHING WRONG, in putting emphasis on yourself.

Why stop putting beauty, health, makeup etc. on the back burner?

It just requires a little more effort than before. It is important as they say, to put money back in the bank.

I hope this can be of some encouragement for YOU!!

Why do we love hearing peoples stories? It makes the impossible seem possible.

It demonstrates that we are all the same. That we all start somewhere.

If this post is something you enjoy, please let me know.

There is so much more I could share with you on this journey, if you would think it would help you.

P.S…the crazy banana tree on top…my daughter and son-in-laws tree.

I can’t begin to tell you how much I am loving fruit again in my life.

Stay blessed,

Laurie

  1. Congratulations, Laurie! I feel inspired! Something has to be done here as well…Now. I do not have an i-phone, but I will work it out somehow. Thank you for posting and good luck further on!

  2. Good for you, Laurie and congratulations! You are so right, it’s easy to get caught up in life and we sometimes tend to let ourselves go. A good reminder to stop and put ourselves on the right track.

  3. Laurie, I have given up sugar; it’s taken a while to do this totally, though, now I don’t have any cravings whatsoever. It makes such a difference; I don’t want those awful little snacks that used to add to my calorie count, and my waistline! It’s probably not for everyone, I understand; though it has made a world of difference to me… Well done to you!

      • Laurie, one thing that really helped me was I made sure I wasn’t hungry, and concentrated on eating really nutritious food. Each time I craved something sweet I would remind myself I was ‘full’ and didn’t need any more food ~ very importantly, I didn’t criticise myself when the biscuit/cake won. It was a battle, though now I know all the hard work was worth it. I’m still a little amazed!

  4. Congratulations, Laurie, for taking time for YOU.
I have this conversation with my patients Every. Single. Day. and often say that we must be a little self focused in order to do all the other things expected of us.
Keep on! So very happy for your happiness and energy.

  5. Great post and congratulations! I love hearing about taking care of ourselves, and the inspirational examples such as yours. Surprisingly, it can still be a challenge at times, to have more “me” time, with all the external demands, and internal programming that can sabotage ones efforts. However, these reminder posts are wonderful to receive, so thanks for that! Sounds like you have obtained some great momentum to keep going. Yeah! 🙂

  6. Congratulations, Laurie! That is a lot of effort, and the result is great. I use iPhone to count the miles I walk every day. It’s a wonderful motivation.
Thank you so much for sharing. 🙂

  7. I love your makeup organizer! Totally awesome! I bet your house is so beautiful!!!!! I am going to strive to lose weight too! With my job I sit too much as there is no choice about it and when I get home I crochet way too much! tee hee! time to schedule an exercise plan in there and get my weight off too! I love your inspirational post sweetie! Hugz Lisa and Bear

  8. Yes, I enjoyed this encouraging post! I am impressed with your gradual weight loss and new outlook of taking care of yourself. We can be beautiful at any age and you have a head start on beauty. Congratulations!

  9. Congratulations!! I did the same thing when I entered perimenopause – I decided to focus on me and my health/fitness. I knew I couldn’t stop the clock, but decided I could at least try to be as healthy as possible as I aged. I’m not always as diligent as I should be, so I use the Lose It app, too! It helps me be mindful of what I’m eating and my activity level. Way to go!

  10. Wonderful to hear of your experience, particularly on weight loss. It’s ever so easy to slip into the pyjamas, couldn’t care less, too busy frame of mind. I do it all the time. 😦 To have friends and role models who encourage us to take better care of ourselves is such a blessing.

  11. I loved this post!!! Thank you for sharing your thoughts – I agree with you wholeheartedly. Life is simply amazing and the best is yet to come. Take it from me who has entered her sixth decade. So glad that we have connected over the years – by my count it is almost 5 years.

  12. Congrats on the loss of 20 pounds! I KNOW how hard it can be and what a sense of accomplishment you feel seeing results! Keep up the good work!

Please share your thoughts...and thank you for the love!
