Home of the Jumbo Jelly Bean…Oh So Cute!
We just got back home from yet another trip to Indiana this month.
This time to the northern region, by South Bend, IN…Home of our Fighting Irish! Go Notre Dame.
My in-laws were wonderful tourist guides.
Everyday, we would go site seeing…what a beautiful time of year to be in the country.
I was mentioning to my father-in-law, that my oldest daughter said, “We should visit Wakarusa Dime Store on this trip.”
He promptly said, “Well, we can do better than that!”
They have built a new location in Granger, IN. Woo Hoo!!
See, this is NO ordinary dime store…IT IS THE HOME OF THE JUMBO JELLY BEAN!
They have over 450 kinds of candy, and have been around since 1907!
Once, you have had one…you are addicted for life!
In the late 1960’s, the task was assigned to Lou Wolfberg, Mose’s son, to develop a new candy for the Maple Syrup Festival.
The Jumbo Jelly BeansTM were introduced in 1969 and 100 pounds were sold that year.
The sweet treat developed by Lou Wolfberg has become more famous than he ever could have expected.
Today, over 75 tons are sold annually.
Building a following world-wide, the Wakarusa Dime Store Jumbo BeansTM have truly earned the title of “World Famous”.
Can you see how BIG these jelly beans are?
We came home with the Cinnamon and Black Licorice. Oh, so Good!
I captured this…as our flight was descending…back home to Houston!
PS>>>Just a little something extra…Little Man and his best friend, this past weekend! She is a doll baby!
They are two peas in a pod!
PSS>>>On Instagram, you will see more images of our South Bend Trip in the country. Hope to see you there.
I LOVE this time of year, don’t you?
Stay blessed,
Laurie
