A Grand Adventure Is About To Begin…
My daughter is giving me the grand tour of her new hometown. We are driving around downtown Houston and I am snapping photos as fast as a girl could go. She is showing me the skyline of this magnificent city! I have been always drawn to the metropolitan cities and now it is going to be even more delightful visiting Little Man and his family! My daughter and her family have a whole new world opening up to them and as Pooh said…
A grand adventure is about to begin…
One of my favorite photos of the day…The Houston Pavilion. Look at all the converging lines! Oh be still my heart. The vintage bowl sign is the icing on the cake.
Most of the downtown area is medical centers, hospitals and organizations of Baylor University. Did you know they employ 80,000 employees? Is that incredible? They take medicine and health to a whole new level. As my daughter was showing me around, literally my mouth was just hanging open. I have never seen such a Medical Maze in my whole life. So I ask my daughter, “Are you going to have to leave an extra 30 minutes just to find a parking spot and arrive at your laboratory?!” She just turns to me and smiles.
One of the parks for the medical employees to enjoy…very unique cube building wouldn’t you say?
Praying this adventure will be a great blessing to our daughter and the family.
What has been YOUR latest adventure?
Have a marvelous day!
Laurie

If you relax your inhibitions and allow yourself to respond naturally to your thoughts, attitudes and emotions, your facial expressions will be appropriate and will project sincerity, conviction, and credibility. 4 stars on most sites, with great feedback from satisfied customers. Chopped nuts add flavor and a bit of a crunch to the cookies, too.
Most people associate it with what birds eat, but more and more people are discovering the great nutritional benefits of it — it certainly isn’t good for just birds. In the Nashville Comfort Food test kitchen we use Cuisinart’s Electric Skillet, Food Processor, Blender and 7 Quart Stand Mixer. She is allergic to milk so I had to search for a vegan buttercream.
Fabulous series of photos. Houston looks a great place to photograph.
I love science centers!
The black and white pictures were wonderful here!
Thanks for a great outing!
A+

80,000 employees? WOW! Looks like an amazing place! Good luck to your daughter and her family in their new hometown.

I’ve driven through and around Houston a few times. I always think of Gateway computers in Houston. And big oil. It’s a wonderful city with lots of fine arts too. She’ll love it! {:-Deb
Houston is wonderful. I love the B & W photos! Good things are going to happen 🙂
I can’t think of anything fresh to say that others have not commented except to say awesome
I love that you’ve posted in Black and White Laurie, what a great creative choice. Congratulations to your daughter and her family for starting a new adventure. Houston looks like a great community. I also fancied the vintage bowling sign….I think they should just make everything new ‘vintage looking’ 😀
Love the photos – the B&W makes everything stand out beautifully. I’ve never been to Houston but it looks like it has some amazing architecture. Thanks for sharing.
Houston is a big place! It’s been years since I’ve been there even though I don’t live very far away. Hope your daughter will enjoy it there — Houston has a lot to offer!
Love your shots, the black and white and the awesome angles!!
I love the crisp lines and detail in your work.
Looks like a great destination…I’d love to visit there, too! Of course, I’d like anywhere warm right now!

Those were some great angles on those shots! It was a pleasure to see those pictures. Thanks for linking up with me this week. I appreciate it.
I have such a soft spot for Urban photography, these are great! Love the processing!
Thanks for linking up with the Nurture Photography Challenge 🙂
Love black and white shots. . . uh yeah, cause we have a B&W photo challenge every week! As far as adventure goes. . . we are (my husband) recovering from eye surgery since the end of last year. It’s a slow process, but God has been so good to us!
Hmmmmmmm my latest adventure? Would have to be taking our new puppy for his forst walk up the lane and him meeting the horses! My ABC is all about Bing so there should be quite a few adventures along the way! Great post, thanks so much.

WOW… Those are some pretty amazing photos. It’s so cool how they are all in B&W. How wonderful to work in a place like that. Seems like they must really value there employees.
Hugs~
Stopping by from Made in a Day!
I guess mine would be visiting our new neighborhood here in Florida. We moved down here from NYC a few months back so it’s always an adventure to discover what lies around us.
Btw, I am doing a little v-day giveaway on the blog. So please stop by.

My daughter lives in Texas with her family, in a town about 6 miles outside of Austin. It is very beautiful and there are a lot of different things for her 3 sons to do.
So glad to hear that Mary!
Some great shots , would love to venture out and visit one day.
Welcome to my home town. Please check the “Houston” “Art Lovers” and “Texas” menu buttons in the header of my site.
I will definately head over there…thanks.
Looks like an amazing place to work. I wish your daughter the best of luck there. Great building shots. The one with the bowling sign is my favorite. Love that they are in b&w too.
I recently learned my oldest will be making a job change and moving to Texas. I believe that is my latest adventure as seen through his eyes. 🙂
I’ve never been to Houston myself, but I have heard only positive things about the city – great post…. 🙂
Thank you! I hope to have many more trips there in the future.
I somehow stumbled onto your site, Laurie, and what a blessing! I love your photography, along with what I’ve had a chance to read on here, so far! I’m fairly new here on WP, and (I suppose you could say I’m in the midst of my latest ‘adventure’!) I am in the process of getting a small photo business going. It’s a new season in life, and I’ve been practicing for sometime, and thought I’d give it a go! Anyway, I preferred the layout here on WP, compared to my other site, but I had trouble working my way around, so I put it on the shelf for a bit, then came back to find they had made it much less complicated, so now I’m back at it again! It still has taken me some time, but I do think I’m getting the hang of it! Looks like we’re using the same theme, so, if I have any questions …. Lol!!
I really love the creamy tones of these b/w city scape images. You captured the beauty of those buildings perfectly … and yes, I love the vintage bowl sign, as well! Anything retro/vintage … oh, I love it!! We have family in Texas, and have talked of moving there. We are empty-nesters, and that certainly would be the beginning of a grand adventure for us, for sure! I wouldn’t want to leave my son and his new bride, just yet, though! Maybe we’ll just pack them up and take them along, too! My son is a videographer, and has had opportunities arise from there, as well. We’ll just have to wait and see what the Lord has in store for us! I’ll be following you and I look forward to visiting again! Blessings to you!
Thanks for the tour of Houston. It has been years since I have visited. Best of luck to daughter and family.
Laurie, this post looks awesome in black & white! Houston looks very impressive and their children’s hospital dwarfs our general hospital… We’re getting a new hospital beside our college, which is walking distance from us but it won’t be as big as that one!
Blessings ~ Wendy
Love the photojournalist style of the black and whites!
Congrats, wonderful b/w photos, my favourite one is the second with the vintage bowl!! I love to watch photos and if they are accomponied with stories like here it seems that I can hear the snaps… I will reconnect! Thank you also for your visit and the like. I have to translate my home page, but my recent posts are all in English, just in case… 🙂 Friendly greetings from Italy, Katharina

Another place I’d like to visit…
My latest adventure was in my backyard – playing with my girls in the snow this past weekend!
Have a great week 🙂
Been to many of these places. Houston is the city of my birth.
very cool..I will remember this for the future.
Thank you Laurie fore your kind reply. Are you close to Houston?
No my daughter and her family just moved there. I went and visited them last week and plan to make many more trips in the future.
I was born and raised there till about the of 12. Then my family moved away. Now I’m in Somerville, Texas and don’t miss the big city at all. Give me the wider open spaces and less people. 😉
Funny…I am needing the culture and noise. Isn’t it great we are all different and not the same☺
Houston has great places of history and lots of diversification which makes it a great place for people from around the world to visit. I’ll be going shortly to take some shots of the oldest (or what’s left of it) Baylor College of Medicine sites. I hope to return with some good B&W.
This is where my daughter is working!
Then hopefully you will like the photos.
My daughter thought seriously about attending Baylor. She didn’t in the end. But today she just started working at a hospital up here in PA. That is our recent adventure.
B&W certainly works really well with these buildings and architecture !
What lovely shots -they work well in black and white.
Thank you so much…wasn’t sure if I should process them this way or not.
Totally going to share your beautiful photography with my oldest son! He just finished a 3D architecture enrichment class at a new STEM high school…and his part of their group project was to design a HOSPITAL. So, I’m going to show him your photos for inspiration. (He’s done with the class but finds enjoyment in tweaking with his design.) Thanks for linking up to our first blog hop ever!
Amazing medical facilities. What a wonderful opportunity for your daughter and family. A new and exciting page in their life.
Annie
Love the new blog look! Great shots and great edits!
I love this post
Thank you so much…haven’t processed b/w in the longest time.
Love the black and white. I enjoyed visiting Houston also. Great city. Blessings to your visit and family !
Oh I do like that you changed these all to B&W…gives them all a distinct feel. Hope your daughter enjoys her new home. My brother lived in Houston for years, then moved to Galveston Bay, now lives in Colorado…but he did enjoy his time there!!
Lots of lines and abstract, enhanced by the B&W mode. Color photography can be overrated. New theme?
Hello John…thank you for your nice comment on the b& w. Yes, I have a new theme for now. WordPress issues needing resolved…grr
Curious what the issues are if I’m not being nosy – web design interests me.
wouldn’t let me preview my posts…
wow, that’s very odd. Never heard of that issue. I use a theme called Brunishelli or something like that. I don’t thing it’s available on the WP.com side though which stinks. There are lots of good themes available for you though. You could spend hours going through and testing them.
Call me nuts, but I adore hospitals! Dreamed about being a M.D. since I was a little girl, but I’m too sentimental and anxious. Did two years in Med. School and dropped out… Sigh. Ended up graduating in Culinary Arts.
All photos are amazing! There is a “je ne sais quoi” factor in black and white photography… Keep them coming! 😀
I love this post a great deal because I adore black and white photography. When a photo is changed to black and white, I look at the picture much closer than I would if it was in color because you are trying to imagine the colors. The buildings seem to pop that you took in Houston, not to mention how the clouds are more defined too in black and white. Thanks ever so much for sharing!
Thank you dear friend! I haven’t processed images in B/W for such a long time…it just sounded like a great idea. IT does seem to work great for city scapes. Seems like a dream that I even went♥
